Recommendations

Have a farm biosecurity plan in place and know what to do before important events such as introductions of sheep or in response to a crisis such as bushfire. Speak to your vet, download the ‘FarmBiosecurity’ app, or go to farmbiosecurity.com.au
Treat all incoming rams with 4 drench active ingredients, including one new active ingredient. This needs to be in 2 drench applicators - do not mix drenches.  For example:
    1. abamectin/derquantel + benzimidazole + levamisole or
    2. monepantel + triple (benzimidazole + levamisole + abamectin)
Check for lice. Visual inspection will pick up advanced infestation but not low levels so to be sure, buy rams that are clean shorn and treated, or shear after arrival and treat with an effective lousicide.
Check history of footrot on farm of origin and condition of feet before unloading rams.

Sheep Health Statement

Buying in sheep is risky. All sheep should be bought only after a ‘Sheep Health Statement’ has been viewed and the details checked.
