Targeting Lamb prices
Targeting the joining of ewes to increase the sale price of lambs is an important decision point for improved profitability. There are many factors such as shearing and feed availability to also be taken into account.
There is some variation in the price trends between trade and heavy lambs but in most years there is a price peak in March, then again in July-August. These peaks coincide when supply is tight. Prices tend to be lowest in November-December. Check Meat & Livestock Australia’s market reports to see if it is worth targeting turnoff for a particular market peak.
